Third year Art and Design class in Action

Front and Back Cover

A third year Art and Design class have recently involved themselves in a Curriculum for Excellence project by developing Literacy in Art through various workshops with an artist in residence, Malcolm Cruickshank. The S3 pupils are in the development of producing two large scaled sculptures which will be placed within a site on the school grounds.  These sculptures have evolved from poems which were developed from all of the feeder Primaries and Blairgowrie S1 pupils which depicted the pupils, their surrounding environment and centred on their fears around the transition from Primary into Secondary.  Storyteller/writer in residence, Janet McInnes worked closely with each Primary pupil in the construction of each poem.

Creative Pupils in Action

This has provided unique opportunity’s for the pupils involved and has helped them develop and strengthen on a breadth of 3 dimensional skills.  We are now looking to begin to construct  from the work already established a book which will contain a selection of poems with various illustrations which show the development of the project from start to finish.(see profile attached)

This project has provided interdisciplinary Links with the English Department, Art Department, Primary Clusters, Local Community Groups,  Janet McInnes (writer in residence),  Malcolm Cruickshank (artist in residence) and Kirstie Baillie (Arts Cultural Coordinator).

The opening and unveiling of these sculptures is due to commence early June.
